Description / Expertise

A rare and highly individual French carriage clock which has an eight-day duration movement with a platform lever escapement and strikes the hours and half-hours on a gong, with a repeat button set to the top to sound the last hour at will.
The top and base of the gilded case, including the centre of the handle, are decorated with coloured enamels set on a white background. The dial, which has black Roman numerals and blued steel spade hands, is shaped and raised on a gilded background and also is decorated with coloured enamels on a white ground. There are columns to the front and rear of the case, the bases of which form the feet of the clock; these in turn form part of the solid base.

Engraved on the corner of the base is what appears to be a registration mark, worded ‘Registered Pattern’.
