Description / Expertise

This cannelee cased carriage clock, which strikes and repeats the hours on a gong, is signed on the bottom of the backplate with a B in a circle, (thought to be Brunelot). It has enamelled panels to the top, on either side, and also on the dial.

The basic background is blue and the chapter ring uses stylised white roman numerals set on a red ground. To the centre of the dial are flowers and foliage, all edged with a gold line. The rest of the dial is decorated in a similar manner.

A fascinating feature which appears on the top and sides of the clock is a fish or possibly a dolphin, executed in red and gold. This is set against a blue background. Foliage in light and dark green also features in these panels.

Ht with/without handle 7"/5.5" (17.5/14cm)
